 WELCOME!

I fell in love with the silence that I felt once I entered the old Monastery walls. It was like stepping back in time, but also in a space that held the energy of a deep in breath. I was immediately quieted, centred and peacefully at home within myself. Nested in a comfort I reflected on simplicity that comes with the removal of clutter in my mind.

This felt all the more magical when I steeped out from the walls and turned the corner to discover that I was in the middle of the bustling city centre. Suddenly my senses were awake, alive and eager to take it all in.

Our time together will play with these and many more dualities. Life balance is in fact an expression of “both this and that”. Can we be conscious of nurturing the yin and yang that weaves itself through all that we experience. Come prepared to play with the duality of simplicity-within and engaged-awakeness as we play together.

The information below is to help you with your trip planning and your time before and after our retreat. It is based on my discoveries and preferences with the intention of giving you a visit that is high on culture and experience. Modify to your budget and personal preferences. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Happy Planning!

TO DO for our retreat

Please complete the following so that we can prepare for your arrival!

Participant information form and release forms

These forms are vital to our planning and ensure that your personal requirements are being taken care of. Please fill in the following form by September 1, 2024.

GETTING READY

WEATHER

October temperatures average high of 52°F (11°C) and a low of 37°F (3°C),

My experience, is that the wind, should it pick up, can be nippy. Do bring a waterproof jacket and sunglasses! It is often windy and rainy at the same time, we recommend a jacket with a hood. We will have several walking tours in the Old City, you will be outside for approximately 1.5 hours at a time.

Packing

Casual, comfortable clothes are encouraged- dress for comfort and not for show. We will be dining at Le Monastere for all our meals, with exception to our last night, when we will enjoy some regional cuisine ($). Even this night is not “dressy” and a reminder that we will be walking on cobblestones and uneven surfaces. Flat shoes are a must.

We will be sitting in contemplation as well as exploring the old building. A wrap, yoga shawl or warm cosy sweater are recommended.

Please be prepared to participate in light movement classes. Yoga wear, or any stretchy clothing is acceptable.

You may also appreciate a bathrobe for your comfort. Reminder, we are staying in the restored authentic part of the hotel, where bathrooms are located in the hallway directly outside of your rooms.

Changing Money

Canada is a digital payments society- you can use your credit cards and “tap” in all grocery stores, transport and shops. There are very few instances where cash is required.

I encourage you to have a “contactless” or “tap” credit card (or load them to Apple Pay) for ease of use. If asked, it is generally in your favour to be charged in the currency of the country you are visiting (Canadian dollars) as opposed to the converted rate (which will use an exchange rate that favours the seller.)

The only additional expense, once you have arrived on the property, will be any alcohol that you wish to consume with dinner, your souvenirs and our final dinner out.

sim cards/cell phone

Travelling with roaming charges can sometimes be restrictive. You may wish to consider a SIM card. While there are many options to choose from, please be sure to read the policy for overages and for automatic contract renewals.

adaptor

Canada has the same voltage as the US.

tips for jet lag - Eastern Time (ET)

My tip, sleep on the plane, drink lots of water and once you arrive, immediately set your clock for local time.

DO NOT keep referencing what time it is at home… be present in your new time zone. Stay awake the first day until after dinner, I do a lot of walking to keep myself from trying to get a nap in…. Set the alarm for a decent wake up time the next morning… and hopefully you are on your way!

Packing light

If you are moving through Quebec City with your suitcase please know that there are NOT elevators everywhere. Expect that you will have to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs or two. Pack accordingly!! I am a dedicated carry-on luggage only kind of person.

entry requirements to CANADA

As health measures can change quickly, I recommend that you visit the Official Government website for the most up to date Entry Requirements.

Currently there are no requirements for COVID-19 tests before you travel or after you arrive.
